Biography

Early Years

Victor was born to a poor family of struggling watchmakers. His parents were very loving but very very broke, and soon after Victor was born their shop went under and they were tragically forced onto the street. While on the streets, his father died in a tragic accident and his mother, lost in her grief, had to make the terrible choice to abandon him. Luckily, he was found by Henry Daedalus, master inventor, who took him in and raised him as his own.

Victor only had vague memories of his real parents- as far as he was concerned Henry was his father. From a young age, he loved to take things apart, figure out what made them tick, so to speak, and then put them back together again. Seeing this natural aptitude, Henry took him under his wing and made Victor his apprentice. By the age of twelve he was a skilled craftsman, and working on minor inventions of his own.

School and the Timekeepers

His skill as an inventor made him eligible to apply to Aeternitas, the timekeeper academy, a year early, and he did so eagerly. The entry test was incredibly challenging, but he passed with flying colors. Eager (almost desperate) to learn, he excelled at his classes and was chosen to become one of the timekeepers. It was during his first days as a timekeeper apprentice that he met Arius. Arius balanced him out perfectly, breaking Victor out of his shell. He and Arius became incredibly fast friends, sharing a dorm at the academy and becoming each other’s designated lab partners. (Oh my god they were lab partners.)

Shit Gets Real

Victor excelled at school, going home during breaks to learn more from his foster father and returning with more advanced knowledge. During his final year at school however, he returned to his home on break to find his father had collapsed. The truth came out that he had been ill for quite some time (2-3 years?) but hadn’t wanted to worry Victor. Victor tried to convince him to go to a hospital but his father revealed that they didn’t have the funds- the majority of their money had been going into Victor’s education, and with his declining health no one cared to hire an inventor past his prime. Daedalus urged victor to go back to school and finish his education, and Victor reluctantly agreed. Anyways victor sets out to get his dad some meds or something with his college student pocket money (so not a lot) and then heads back to college with newfound determination- and desperation. If only he could buy his father some time. And then he realizes 👁️👁️ Maybe He Can! He recruits Arius to help him under the guise of some sort of senior thesis?? And asks him not to speak of it to anyone until it’s complete. Arius agrees and they get to work. The watch- the antivortex, they decide to name it- comes together piece by piece. It’s slow going, but near the end of the school year it is almost complete. Arius can tell this isn’t just a senior project- the speed and great lengths Victor has been pushing himself to in order to finish it speak for that. Eventually they get into a bit of an argument- Arius demands the truth and Victor deflects, and in a burst of anger he slams the table the antivortex has been sitting on. The mechanism clicks and Arius vanishes before Victor’s eyes. Frantically he checks the timepiece- it was only set a couple minutes forward, surely Arius will be back- but he does not return. Victor sits alone in his lab for three days before it finally sinks in that he’s gone.

It is with this realization that he demands to speak to the council- the antivortex is almost complete, and it will work, he just has to get it officially sanctioned- and he frantically comes up with a stupid, diplomatic tactical advantage it will give their continent over Euporia (Euporia be damned, he just wants his loved ones to be safe!) Unsurprisingly, he is unequivocally turned down. No one should have that kind of power, they say. Foresight is a dangerous thing. He tunes out their words the moment they reach his ears.

The antivortex will work. It has to. He doesn’t know who he would become if it didn’t. It just needs more power, he thinks. Fully connected to the time waves, fully complete, he should be able to fix his mistakes. Save the things he is about to lose. He is a ticking time bomb, and he does not hesitate to pull the trigger.
